Glock Gen 6 in South Africa

The buzz is real. The next generation of Glock, the Glock Gen 6, is finally hitting the South African market.

You see all the buzz, YouTube videos, and the hype from overseas around the Glock Gen 6 release. The Gen 6 is a game changer from Glock. Just like you, we have been waiting to get our hands on this next generation of Glock here in South Africa. As you know, they are coming in the most popular models: the full-size Glock 17 Gen 6, the compact Glock 19 Gen 6, and the ever-popular crossovers, the Glock 45 Gen 6 and the Glock 49 Gen 6.

Personally, I think Glock has listened to us, the firearm community. We all know most of us who own a Glock are always fitting aftermarket parts to the firearm. I bet many of you have wanted to change the trigger to a flat-face trigger, get an undercut on the trigger guard, add more aggressive stippling on the frame, and get an optic cut on the slide. Does this sound familiar?

This generation of Glocks has it all, and even some additional features that some of us did not even think about, like an enlarged beavertail. Well, it is not something I ever wanted on my Glock, but I do know some people fit the backstraps to help with grip. I have seen a few people get the “Glock bite”, or slide bite as we call it, from the slide. So the beavertail will be welcomed by most shooters to help prevent this.

It will also be interesting to see it from an EDC perspective, especially when carrying inside the waistband and making sure the beavertail does not dig into you (not digging into fat people like myself ). It will also be interesting to see how the Gen 6 fits into the latest conversion kits. I am sure manufacturers like CAA, Recover, and Meta Tactical will come up with new designs.

Let’s break down the features of the Glock Gen 6. It is still a Glock, so it will come with what we always expect, a super reliable and easy-to-shoot pistol right out of the box. The standout feature, or most notable change, is that they are now all optic ready. With the Gen 6 Glocks, we do not get to choose between a standard slide or MOS like in the past. Every model is now optic ready.

We also now get deeper slide serrations. Personally, I never had an issue with my Gen 4. As mentioned before, there is now a flat-face trigger. This is something I cannot wait to test out,
