2. Competency Certificate Application
• Once you receive your training certificate, you can apply for your competency certificate at the South African Police Service (SAPS) at your local station.

Southern Sky Operations can assist with the application process.

• Important: You must submit the application in person, as SAPS will take your fingerprints.

3. Firearm License Application• After your competency certificate is approved, you may apply for your firearm license at your local police station.
• Applications for competency and firearm licenses cannot be submitted at the same time.
• You need to fully motivate your license application — we can assist with preparing a solid motivation.
• Your application must include the firearm’s details and serial number.
• This means you must legally purchase or obtain a firearm before applying for the license.

The dealer or current license holder must keep the firearm until your license is approved.
